Working as a physical activity consultant I am frequently being asked what are the best belly fat exercises to lose excess fat from stomach. To the surprise of many of my clients I am unable to answer that question. Unfortunately, I have still not found the magic exercise which would do the trick, why? Because there is none!
People really should be focusing more on their diet to lose excess fat. A proper fat burning diet will increase their metabolism and help them lose stomach fat quicker.
None the less, many people believe that by performing endless number of belly fat exercises such as crunches or sit-ups will utilise the fat stored on their stomach. There is nothing more misleading. As many of us know, weight loss is bit more complicated and a complex topic than exercising a specific area in order to get rid of the locally stored fat.
There have been several studies conducted to check the effect of exercising one part of body and the changes in fat tissue in the area. One of the most interesting one, was examining the effect on the fat loss after 27-days intensive belly fat exercises - sit-up programme. The results show no difference between the fat loss from stomach in comparison to other parts of the body, therefore there is no extra fat loss from the specific spot worked. The only benefit might be that the area might be more toned.
The truth is that during exercise, fat is mobilised either equally from all areas or from the area which has the highest concentration of the fat cells.
How do you lose that belly then?
Combining a sensible diet and increasing the activity level is the best answer. I personally think that mixing endurance, resistance training, playing sports and also practising Pilates or yoga give the best results.
More importantly, it is staying consistent and focused. Following a programme or a plan is always a good idea as it helps you to stay on track.
So don’t become too obsessed with belly fat exercises and getting a six pack and performing so many crunches or sit-ups, as you're more likely to end up with lower back injury and muscles imbalances. Focus more on a balance of exercise and eating right with the right diet plan such as Burn the Fat.
