Guilt Free Food - Main Meal Ideas

Replacing certain ingredients in traditional main meals can cut up to 3/4 of the calories contained in them,making them a guilt free food.

If your trying to lose weight, then don't miss out on your old favourites, just make them healthier and eat in moderation.

Here are 10 ideas to get you started. The left side shows you some healthy alternative ingredients and on the right is the old calorific one, choose wisely.

 

Chilli con carne

Low fat mince meat full fat mince meat
More kidney beans, less meat with tomato sauce, chilli and herbs More full fat meat, too much oil.

Spaghetti Bolognese

Low fat mince meat tomato sauce with herbs full fat mince, oily brought sauce
wholemeal spaghetti white spaghetti

Macaroni Cheese

For sauce: use skim mill and a little low fat chedder cheese full fat milk and cheese
add some veges such as chickpeas, leeks or brocoli less pasta

Traditional Sunday Roast

Cut visible fat from meat fatty meat basted with fat
steamed veges and small jacket potato boiled roasted oily veges

Sausage and Mash

Reduced fat sausages (or make your own from low fat pork mince) full fat sausages
1%/2% Milk for mash or sweet potato mash (no butter) full fat milk and butter mash

Fry up

Cut visible fat of meats and grill fried full fat meats
Poached or bolied eggs fried eggs
grilled vegetables fried veges

Pizza

wholemeal thin flour base (or tortilla) white thick flour base
low fat ham, cheese and vegetables salami, pepperoni, full fat cheese

Fish and Chips
